Qapla’! Welcome to my Star Trek obsession.
For those of you who don’t know: No, that does not mean ‘hello’. Klingons don’t overburden themselves with formalities. The word has a variety of uses, and directly translated means ‘success’. It is both salutation and farewell, as well as acknowledgement. And I say it often.
It is my strong opinion that having hobbies is important. A hobby is a thing you invest time in because it interests you. I have a lot of them. This is one of them. And I’m not talking just the language. I get to BE a Klingon once a week or so. Nerdy? Yes. Do I care? No.
When I got the opportunity to be a DJ for an in-character Star Trek themed radio station, I jumped on it. I started creating the character of DJ G’vara in my head almost immediately- a half-Klingon broadcasting from a secret base on the remnants of Praxis. For those of you who DO know Star Trek, yes- the moon is still not cannon. No, I don’t care. My English bulldog even gets in on the action. You’ll hear Miss Daisy from time to time as my ‘teacup targ’.
Getting to be her is amazingly fun, and if you’d like to check it out, you can follow her on Twitter as @dj_gvara or bookmark the website itself as there is tons of fun Trekkie stuff, and other cool dj’s.
In the future, I plan to do a few conventions- at least once I perfect the makeup.
So tell me… What is it YOU are passionate about?
